Launching of SIM promotion













On Wednesday 2nd November Celtel launched its SIM promotion at the Victoria Park in Freetown, with the Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority doing the official launch. This promotion is one of the biggest acquisition drives launched by Celtel in 2006 and will run from the 2nd November to the 30th December 2006.

In his welcome statement, the Marketing Director of Celtel Bernard Sisay said that the goal of Celtel is to provide access to the most sophisticated and reliable means of communication for all its valued subscribers in the 12 districts in Sierra Leone. Managing Director Ted Sauti-Phiri said that Celtel is proud to boast of having the most reliable and congestion free network in Sierra Leone, with 24 hours customer care service (offered only by Celtel in Sierra Leone).

Launching the SIM promotion, the Commissioner General of National Revenue Authority Dr. John Karimu congratulated Celtel for not only providing good quality communication to the nation but for also being good corporate citizens, by being the most compliant tax payers to the revenue authority He also said that through the expansion of the mobile phone industry in Sierra Leone led by Celtel, the country’s revenue base has greatly increased especially that of the income tax and non-tax revenue. Dr Karimu disclosed that Celtel has paid a grand total of Le 102,935,857 (One hundred and two billion, nine hundred and thirty five million, eight hundred and fifty seven thousand leones) as payment of revenue for the year 2005 and 2006.

The Marketing Manager Brand and Communications, Francis Minah explained the rules of the promotion which is that at any top up of a SIM purchased at the cost of Le 5000 from the 2nd November to 30th December, customers automatically qualify for the grand draw to be held in November and December and also qualify for the weekly raffle draws in which the prize is a 1 minute trolley dash in a supermarket.

Side attraction included musical performances given by Lady Laurish, K-Man and the National Dance Troupe with comical relief from famous comedian Vamboi.
