
Celtel opens shop in Makeni and donates 13.5kva generator to SLBS radio MakeniOn Thursday 15th June 2006 the Makeni township felt the presence of Sierra Leone’s premier mobile operator through the launch of Celtel’s new shop in their midst. It was a moment to celebrate and remember as Makeni joined the big league of towns who had a Celtel shop in their midst. In his opening remarks the Sales and Distribution Director Salia Gbane remarked that from that day on everybody in Makeni will be able to benefit from the shop’s facilities, which will be open day and night. He also revealed that there will be special offers in the shop as it is intended to ‘make life better’. Speaking at the ceremony the Operations Director Basilio Sadindi who also deputized the Managing Director said that there are about five main Celtel shops in Sierra Leone and so when Makeni (which is the headquarter town in the north) joined it’s counterparts, ‘it was time to celebrate’ The shop was declared open by the Paramount Chief of Makeni PC Bai Shegbora Kasanga 11, whilst the chairman of the Bombali District Council Andrew Kanu did the cutting of the tape. Another Makeni town related event that took place that day was the presentation of a 13.5KVA Generator to SLBS Makeni by Celtel, as part of its corporate social responsibility. The Station Manager - SLBS Makeni, Mr. Abdul Sesay disclosed that generator was a major problem for the station and thanked Celtel for having come to their rescue. He expressed the hope that now that they have a generator they will empower the people with information. The presentation was also done by Celtel’s Operations Director - Basilio Sadindi
