Celtel SL’s Commercial Launch in Kailahun
Kailahun was the last of the District Headquarter towns to “join our world”, as Celtel Sierra Leone launched its mobile services in this thriving commercial town which was one of the hardest hit by the ravages of the 10 years civil war. The commercial launch of Kailahun was held at the local court building on Friday 5th May 2006, graced by a number of government and local notables, among whom were: the Vice President of the Republic and Chairman of the ruling party – Mr Solomon Berewa, the Resident Minister East – Sahr Randolph Fillie Faboe, the Minister of Transport and Communication – Dr Prince Harding, Senior Adviser to the President – Dr Sama Banya, and a host of local traditional rulers. In his opening statement, Dr Julius Spencer, who chaired the occasion remarked, “Today marks the end of Celtel’s expansion to all the district headquarter towns in Sierra Leone”. That is a unique achievement, thus far, in a country with four other mobile operators. The welcome address was delivered by the host Paramount Chief – M.S.K. Banya, followed by a statement by Mr Augustine Kortou – Kailahun District Council Chairman.
Statements were also made by the Resident Minister East – Sahr Randolph Fillie Faboe and the Minister of Transport and Communication – Dr Prince Harding. The highlight of the day - the official launch, was done by His Excellency the Vice President – Solomon Ekuma Berewa.
