This event was officially launched on the 4th of April 2006 at the Victoria Park Grounds Garrison Street Freetown, by the Governor of the Sierra Leone Central Bank Dr. J D Rogers at 11:00 AM. In his statement, the governor recommended Celtel as being the leaders in the provision of quality service in Sierra Leone. He said he considers this significant development as a mile stone for the economic development of Sierra Leone. He expressed delight at being honored to launch the new product and stated that Celtel has contributed tremendously in providing employment opportunities in the country, adding that the company has now almost covered the whole country as part of their commitment in making life better for all.

The Managing Director of Celtel Jean-Yves Kouassi-Goly in his remarks said, “Celtel will continue to play its role nationwide and will always be the leaders in communication. He further stated that counting his company’s achievements is by letting all know that his management is proud to be a good driver of economic growth by providing the technologies that is urgently needed to effect development in Sierra Leone and the world over.

In his closing remarks, the Marketing Director, Bernard Sisay encouraged people to join the Celtel world and customers to make good use of the facility. “Celtel understands the dynamics of the market and therefore sees competition as an even better way to spur and motivate quality provision of services”.

The event was broadcast live on the National Radio Station (SLBS) and another private FM Station, Radio Democracy FM 98.1. A Float Parade commenced in Freetown, Bo, Kenema, Kono and Makeni simultaneously after the formal launching ceremony. Live comedy on the Float Parade was aired live on the radio stations mentioned earlier.

Nineteen (19) locations have been identified nationwide - Freetown (7), Bo (3), Kenema (3), Kono (3) and Makeni (3), to be manned by one hundred and two people trained by the Marketing and Customer Care Team to educate people on the use of the product and also to distribute leaflets with information on Me2u over a five day period starting Tuesday the 4th to Saturday 8th April 2006.

Radio Jingles, Television Adverts, Bill board and news paper adverts will help reinforce the message about the product.
