Celtel commercial launch in Kabala.

Kabala was literally all red on Saturday 8th April 2006 - the day that Celtel SL did its commercial launch in the headquarter town of Koinadugu District. It is a day that will always be remembered by the people of Kabala, as it historically marked the time when they were able to join the global village - courtesy of Celtel SL’s mobile network being launched there.

To officially launch the network was Sierra Leone’s Head of State - His Excellency Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Tejan Kabbah. He lauded Celtel for being the first to reach Koinadugu District and that it would go a long way to enhance development in the community, citing the boost it will give to regular business activities, health care and linking up with those in the Diaspora. He emphasized that Celtel’s presence would help to empower the youths through job creation. He however pleaded with them to ensure that they take care of Celtel’s investment and treat it as their own.”

The Managing Director of Celtel SL, in his own statement said “today is a wonderful day for Celtel and for Sierra Leoneans in general, as it is a day of joy, celebration and excitement. For the people of Koinadugu District, life would never be the same again”. He said people of this district will now benefit from the latest technology and have the opportunity to transact their businesses over the phone, as compared to the expensive and time consuming traveling they had been subjected to in the past.

Statements were also made by the Minister of Transport and Communications Dr. Prince Harding and the Minister of Presidential Affairs Dr. Sheku Sesay.

Notable among the attendees at this event was the Head of State, five government ministers, a couple of Members of Parliament, a host of paramount chiefs and other local dignitaries.
